Star Trails Vol. IV

Find Brad’s star trails here: http://thebradmeyer.wordpress.com/2009/11/08/star-trails/
I really want a graduated ND filter so I can expose less for the ground and more for the sky. I tried vertical compositions this time.

International Space Station

The ISS orbited over Champaign from around 9:36-9:39 PM tonight. Not as impressive as a B-2 or F-16 fly over, but definitely more expensive.

Windsor Road – Star Trail Three

My third attempt at a star trail, this one with an intentional horizon. I love the colors from the cars passing by. I found this spot when I was coming back from a personal assignment yesterday. Thanks to Elliot for the ride, the company, and recommending I shoot and incorporate the street, just the radio tower would have been a much different scene.
This was cut short due to humidity. I was forming on my d70s and sigma lens, so I got worried and check the d700, it was fine but I ruined an image with the light from my phone and also bumped the camera, and I did not want to start over for the third time. This is 26 images which span about 15 minutes.

A night on the town
Don and I took Champaign by storm Friday night.

When ever I go out to shoot for fun, I always only come back if only one image I like, this is it this time.

Don needed to use the self timer for every shot of his star trail.

Milhouse: [quietly angry] But we already did it. It took seven hours,
but we did it. It's done!
Director: Yes...but we've got to do it from different angles! Again and
again, and again and again and again!

Not the best execution, but i caught some lightning bugs and Polaris is pretty much centered.

Star Trail
After covering an assignment tonight, the writer, who I previously explained how I was dying to do a star trail, said he didn’t have any plans for the night and would drive me away from the Champaign-Urbana light pollution. We went about ten miles west just north of Mahomet. This is a composite of 80 30 second exposures. They were assembled into a single image in photoshop. I was very pleased with the final result – then I lighted it a bit and brought out 80x more star trails and was WOWed. Thanks Alex
