Football Fortune
Saturday’s game between Illinois and Michigan State was the best game I’ve ever shot. To clarify, the best shooting I’ve ever done, not the best game I’ve been too. I like to believe I captured both action on and off the field. I owe a great deal of it to the perfect sunshine and cloudless sky.
Sportraits
(Ned Mulka/The Daily Illini)
Here are some sports portraits from the past month.
I’d call the second one a surprise portrait. While I was shooting the first soccer portrait, the sports information director for cross country spotted me and informed me that there was a cross country portrait schedule for that day but no one from the DI could shoot it. Anyways, the location of the team’s practice changed and I was in the right place at the right time (if that’s possible because XC portraits might be the most difficult sport to take a portrait of and shooting one on zero notice isn’t pleasant).
We don’t have a whole lot of time to create these, I’d say five, ten minutes max. It’s a great balance between trying to get the best photo while not taking their time away from practice or angering the sports information director responsible for the athletes.
Space: the nerdiest frontier
After my friend Tim and I visited the university’s observatory for class we both had the urge to get away from the light pollution of campus and get a better view of the sky.
We got a great view of the Milky Way, as seen in the last photo, and we were only a few miles off campus.
